Meet Little Dune - Sustainable Brand
How did you come up with the idea of creating Little Dune?
Like for many people, the pandemic has brought stillness to my life too where I could explore other work opportunities from home. I always wanted to have my own business, and it felt right to start something then.
I was looking for interior pieces for my own home myself and noticed that it was difficult to find everything I wanted for my own home in one place. So slowly, I started toying with the idea of bringing everything in one place and curating items myself.
I wanted my customers to be able to find sustainable items for their homes without compromising on price or design. Therefore, all items at Little Dune are either sustainably made or handcrafted using organic, sustainable wood materials under a certified commercial plantation programme. After choosing a sustainable printing partner that uses vegan inks, I later introduced my own design lines to the offering by creating patterns for cushions, wall art, clothing, and other home items. Slowly but steady, the brand has grown, presenting new opportunities each day.
How do you balance career and motherhood?
It is always a challenge, and it is not easy. There were times when I was writing emails while breastfeeding or doing the majority of the work while the little one was asleep. It is still hard, but I want my son to grow up seeing his mother as someone who did not give up on her dreams even if it was not the most convenient time. So that keeps me inspired and willing to juggle things. Of course, he is always my priority over the business, but as long as life allows, I try to develop the brand while still keeping my motherly duties aligned.
How do you find inspiration to continue to develop Little Dune?
Some days I want to stop because I physically do not have the resources to attend to all business needs. Still, another fantastic opportunity comes along, and I roll my sleeves up and continue. For example, someone notices the brand and offers to stock our products etc., and that just is a reminder that it is worth keeping going. I am always full of ideas, and if I have time, I try and introduce new exciting products to the market. I love the creative aspect of the work, where I get to create my own designs and offer them along with the curated items.
What’s the best piece of advice you would give to other mothers?
I don’t think I can advise other mothers how to be a mum as we all individually are doing our best each day. But if another fellow mum is thinking about starting their own business, I would say: do not be discouraged. It is possible to bring those ideas to life. So stick to your plan, do your research, don’t be afraid to be creative and do even just a little each day. You might be building something big for your little ones future too.
